Aretha Franklin.

Statement-
Aretha Franklin’s background as a singer and an activist in the 60’s seemed like an ideal route to go with regarding my sketchy hand drawn art style in contrast with a 60’s colour palette. My first go to for inspiration on hand drawn covers was that of the Beetles Revolver Album Cover by Klaus Voorman, intergrating simplified or stylised faces of the singers as the focus, but even then I didn’t want to make it exclusively Aretha as its more on what she represents. In terms of the composition, the amalgamation of ideas and lyrics of the song were compiled in a similar fashion to the Bird and Diz Album cover. The music of jazz, and physcadelia almost seem to have that the bridge with Soul music in my opinion.
My lines indicate rebellion and activism with the context representing my interpretation of the song, I wanted to capture both the glamour and the grit of when cultural attitudes started to be challenged at that time.
