Side Note-Scott does graphic design, lecture in the morning.
Get Portfolio to first draft stage so you can discuss it with students and lecturers for extra hints an tips.
Have a URL with you name on it, sensible and catchy.
Introduce what you do, what you want to do and what makes you special.
Check how your online portfolio website looks on a tablet or a smartphone.
Don’t include phone number or Personal Address Details. Just to keep yourself safe.
Include links to social media platforms/apps you use.
Consider creating physical mailouts to lead potential employers to your site - Postcards, leaflets and such. Sometimes it can be a physical example of your work.
Include recognition from others, testimonials, awards etc.
Details of work experience, live briefs, volunteer work etc.
Consider a blog.
If people say good things about you be sure to ask them first if you want to leave a recommendation from them on your site.
EDIT-
Don’t fill space for the sake of it. If you have a project you have done loads of work for don’t chuck it all in, pick out the work that represents the best parts of it.
Show the job you want. IMPORTANT! – If you want to be a film-maker/animator show off your film/animation work, don’t fill it up mostly with illustration work.
Curate PDFs with links to portfolio for specific jobs.
Include self initiated work
Include key development pieces and/or research
ORGANISE-
Make it easy to navigate
Organise work into appropriate sections
Put your name and email where it is easy to find
Do include a downloadable PDF version of your CV
Use plenty of white space
Put your best work where it will be seen first
Credit others where appropriate- show that you are a collaborative worker
SHOWCASE YOUR BEST WORK
Show the best work you have done in the past few years, not ages ago.
Be picky if your including University work.
Photograph physical work in good lighting and quality.
Create cropped photos to show off detail in work.
Consider including short descriptions of projects.
Embed moving image and video if possible, if not achievable add a Vimeo or YouTube link
Double check to see if all your work is showing when you export it.
