Mirror Shots Development and Thoughts

These shots involving the mirror were designed to give an introspective montage of the girls thoughts and realisation. This comes right after scene when the rabbit looks at his ring. But unfortunately due to the time constraints and the fact that the scene was not made yet, the montage had to be improvised with the clips I had.
As for the mirror itself, there were two versions painted, one for the shot where she turns to face it and the other where we see her point of view. Two background assets were re-used first and recoloured to fit the nursery location and the sections intersecting the centre of the mirror were masked out in photoshop.

When it came to the highlighting the mirrors presence I re-used the glowing animation of the candelabra over it to give it a superatural aura that draws the lead character to it. Another thing that helped with the immersion was duplicating the animation and using a similar technique of masking the way I did with the shadows on the character in other scenes. For the mask itself, it was re coloured with his colour tuner, as was the glowing animation. A light feather feature was used on the mask to blend the natural colours of the girl with the otherworldly glow of the mirror. Its a shot I am very proud of for how it looks and draws the audience in.

The same method was used in the POV shot as well, it adds this eerie look to the girl as she approaches the mirror.

A creative choice I decided to make instead of a simple thought bubble was adding an additional animation that spin out to show the girls internal thoughts. I liked this choice overall as it made the final composition more interesting.

An added animation for the mirror was given to add a reflective shine to the surface and to compose the girls face in a unique way. Almost as if the mirror was alive and communicating to her in some way.
