So here is the brief.
Note(The text is copied from the brief itself, I am not claiming it as my original text.)
The project aim is for each student to produce a short title sequence for an imagined film, TV series or documentary of about 1-2mins in length. Your final outcomes will be presentedon the Screen in the foyer of Edward Street Campus as a response to the Cinecity Brighton Film Festival.
This project also includes the possibility of working on sound tracks with the Digital Music and Sound Arts students.
There are two options to choose from with the brief:
1. To create a title sequence to a film version of your favourite novel or biography, this could be from childhood or a more recent novel that you would like to imagine as a film.
2. A title sequence for an imagined documentary / or historical narrative using footage from Screen Archive South East. The themes will either be Brighton Beachor Protest
Option 1
· Choose a novel or biography with a theme that interests you and would make for a good film title sequence.
· Decide on the amount of text for the title sequence and what it should say (keep it brief e.g: title, director, 3 x main actors, and the writer)
· how you want to set the scene that portrays the mood and intention of the book.
· Carry out research and analysis of similar types of title sequences.
· Your title sequence should give an over-view of the film version of the book as a book jacket would; summing up the overall story in a concise exciting and persuasive manner.
· The text is important, the text animation and the style chosen will convey an essential message about the possible film.
· The soundtrack is a key element that will assist with the drama and effect of the piece.
Option 2
· Have a look through the SASE footage and think about editing together sequences that would portray either a documentary or historical drama.
· The opportunity to work on split screens would be interesting with this footage to give it a feeling of multiple edits and interesting media explorations.
· Think about the footage and what it could portray, it will influence your decision to focus on portraying either a negative or positive side to either Brighton or Protest
· Here, you will have to think of a title for the piece and then add additional information such as text, which you should choose and animate accordingly.
· The soundtrack is a key element that will assist with the drama and effect of the piece.
My thoughts:
I obviously want to work on the first option as it will allow for more creative freedom and I have had an honest passion and thought on the ideas of books I wanted to be turned into films as a child. So I will look over the books I have read and enjoyed and list them down for consideration.
I can then decide on which book I will adapt for a sequence after considering the creative possibilities and looking over the synopsis. Better get started then.
