Year 3 Project Continuation and Brief

This final major project is following up my previous context and consolidation module. I wanted to make a full short film but didn't have the time to complete it, this is why I had eventually opted to make trailers promoting the film before I can move onto completing it. This will be my final major project for this year. To catch up on things, I will lay down the basic and brief for what I originally wanted. Project Title: The Child Who Strayed.

Subject of investigation and intent: My investigation will be on childhood fears and the stylistic attributes of a dark children's fairytale. I want to create a film that reflects common little anxieties a child may imagine when they encounter strangers, or become lost in an unfamiliar environment, separated from mother with very little agency but to run scream and hide. Format and Process for project: The format will be animated short film, made with a small variety of mediums but mostly traditionally drawn animation and after effects. The other mediums used will require stop motion animation, paper mache, and foley sound.

Who is my audience: I am aiming for a young adult demographic as that consists of slightly older children and mid to late teens, adults can watch as well if interested. The themes of fears, twisted versions of fairytales and a dark cynical take on childhood memories appeals to an audience that is starting to properly form an opinion and identity. It will also teeter the line between horror and comedy in its presentation to appeal to a wider demographic.

Personal Learning Objectives:

I hope to properly define or refine my skills in animation and film making. Things such as walk cycles in stop frame animation and assets created from Cinema 4D, I would like to make them flow naturally into without seeming distracting. I also want to have a clear idea on what methods I am using for which scenes and how schedule them properly. That has usually been my biggest weakness, as I am not committed to a schedule or trying to create one. Another smaller objective I think would be beneficial would be at expanding my interest in foley sound for my film-making techniques.

What you will see at the final presentation:

A short film within the span of 6-7 minutes or under. Likely displayed on a projector or a TV screen.
