Major Project Research/Influence: Wolfwalkers, Labyrinth and Hever Castle

I wanted earthy warm colours for the outside scenes of my animation, to get across the more organic and welcoming vibe set up from the beginning. A recent film I had seen which employed a unique style in its nature settings was WolfWalkers by Cartoon Salloon. It employs a unique and mystical fairytale atmosphere against the backdrop of british occupied Ireland, where the city is cold and artificial the forest is bright and brimming with life.

For the sequence in the hallway I wanted something visual to communicate the feeling of powerlessness and disorientation. One such scene that came to mind was the Within You scene in Labyrinth which also references Relativity, the surrealist art piece by M.C. Escher. Later on though I decided to only take a few visual references just so that the hallway itself looked more consistent and traversable.

A very interesting Tudor Home I had visited was that of Hever Castle, the childhood home of Anne Boleyn. A woman who married a king but was unjustly executed at such a young age. What I enjoyed at the interior was how sublime it was and how the hallway had this balcony overlooking it all, I thought having a scene in which the rabbit could see her from there would give off a dominating composition.
