Despite it not being around today, I was told of this museum by my father when we visited Bramber. Walter Potter created the museum in the Victorian period, when taxidermy was seen as a popular hobby and featured the skins of kittens and rabbits in contemporary dress. They had been set up in little tableaux depicting domestic human ceremonies and events such as weddings and school life.
I felt this sort of information was relevant to my project, as it features a heavy emphasis on the uncanny and the whimsical depictions of anthropomorphic animals in old, fanciful domestic settings. We see these sorts of things in children's fiction and fairy tales almost frequently, but the methods taken to depict these variations have more grizzly implications, which I think is a fun point of reference to look into for my project.
