Nostalgic Horror Questionnaire
Name: Lizzie Banks
Age: 30
This Questionnaire is designed for research into a project relating to how TV affects childhood mentality into adulthood.
If you remember a show/film/moment in the media from your childhood that scared or traumatised you in some way, please describe it in the best way below-
I wasn’t scared by the most conventional things… It’s sounds weird, but I was scared of some particular idents of production companies or broadcasters. This was when I was very little, 3 years old or so.
I think there was one that happened before a Postman Pat video I had, with a W in the ident. I was also scared of a BBC ident, I can remember the music and how I’d race to fast forward it!
How do you think it reflects on you now as an adult? Do you know the reason why it might have scared you at the age you were?
I have absolutely no idea why it scared me. I guess it had ominous music and looked scary compared to the things I was about to watch. But other than that, in retrospect it’s a really strange this to be scared of.
How would you compare it with current children’s media in tone and style? Is it more or less tamer in comparison?
I guess as children watch more VOD and stuff on YouTube, they might avoid this kind of thing? I think kid’s TV in general has become a bit more tame. I think things were a bit stranger and a bit edgier in the 90s.
What would you define as scary? Either in childhood or adulthood? Do they cross over?
I think there are still some generic things that are scary that cross over. I remember an episode of Goosebumps with a ventriloquist’s dummy that was scary and that I still find creepy to this day.
Thank you for participating, research will be taken into account.
Thoughts: I will have to look for that W logo if possible, I do know what BBC logo she is talking about and maybe the addition of a logo would make the idea of the fake show feel more authentic.
It would be cool, in my opinion.
I suppose the W logo could be this seeing as Lizzie was probably a kid around the 80s.
