Bauhaus Costume Design Workshop

Updated: May 10, 2019

I was initially given links to these videos of ballet performances and music videos involving costumes inspired by the bauhaus movement.

The workshops with Claire Levitt were about making the costumes and experimenting with photography. I mostly made mine out of several pieces of card, inspired by rabbits but also trying to replicate a b movie sci fi alien look.

My assistant and friend Fiona Corbridge helped pierce the holes and make knots to tie the legs and torso around my body so they did not fall off.

The head was made with a large balloon with was then covered with papier mache. It was only two thin layers so it was rather easy to break, however it hasn't fallen apart yet. The ears/antenna were made from regular paper formed into cones which were then taped on.

I wore a dark jumper and trousers to make the colours pop the way I wanted to.

The workshop was alright overall, albiet I did not want to go through the photoshop editing process as it seemed too long and finicky to sort out compared to other projects. I was shown how to do it by Claire but I just simply decided not to.

I was asked to do a series of poses while photographed some more robotic and some more ballet like which was quite funny.
